History of North Brookfield Massachusetts, p. 596: "Captain and esquire, son of Thomas of Windsor and Springfield and his wife Catherine Chapin Bliss, was born in Springfield 1659; settled Brookfield 1690 or 1691; built a house on North side of new country road, east of Owen's tavern, his land extending to Colonel's brook; had grants of land, in all four hundred and eighty[four acres; a leading man in civil affairs; town clerk 1718 till his death, and treasurer in all but four years."
