Northumberland Co, VA Record Book 1650 - 1652 p. 39, May 1, 1650, This indenture witnesseth that John Cockrill sonn to John Cockerill Latt of London Coachman deceased hath put him selfe apprentice to Edward Coles of N'humbeland in Virginia planter him to dwell and serve for and duringe the time and spate of thirteen years fully to be compleat and ended, to commence and begin from the five and twenty day of November last untill the said thirteen years shall fully expired during said terms the said Apprentice shall doe all such service and imployment as his said master shall command and appoynt and it is hereby consented and agreed upon between the said parties that the said Edward Coles nor his wife there Executors or Administrators shall not turne over his apprentice to any other person whatsoever and the said Apprentice is to be free att the death of the longest live off the said Edward Coles or his wife and the said Edward Coles doth hereby bind himselfe his Executors and Administrators to give and deliver unto his said apprentice att the end off, the said first (twelfe) part one cow with calfe, and att the end of his tyme one sow with pigges one gun one pott one frying pan one Axe one hoe one flockbead bolster and rugge together with do ble apparill and three barrille of corne and to the true performance hereof the parties above said doe bind themselfes each to other firmly by these presents in wittness whereof the parties above said Interchangably have here put there hands and seales the 20th day of may 1650. Hacks Neck is a very large rural area and is very close to Burgess Store, which I am sure is the Post Office for the Hacks Neck area and of course is nearby the town of Reedville..All of this area is included in the Fairfields District. Many people always give their location as Reedville, as it is the largest town (one mile long Peninsula) and is the main Post Office for the Fairfields District. There is a Minnie O Haynie, buried in Reedville but no dates are listed. (Dell Haynie Roberts, January 12, 2003)

Mrs. Clara F. Bowen
Mrs. Clara F. Bowen, wife of J. C. Bowen, died at the Protestant hospital at 8:30 o'clock last night, aged 33 years. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Haynie and Mrs. Luckham, and three brothers, Edward, John C. Jr. and Tanker K. Haynie. The funeral will be held at the residence, 1002 Virginia street at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Service will be conducted by Rev. Vernon I'Anson of Grace Baptist church. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

FUNERAL OF MRS. BOWEN
The funeral of Mrs. Clara F. Bowen, wife of J. A. Bowen, took place at 3 p.m. yesterday at the residence, 1102 Virginia street and was well attended. Rev. B. Lacy Hoge of the Spurgeon Memorial Baptist church, conducted the services. There were handsome floral tributes and the interment was in Riverside cemetery. Mrs. Bowen died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at a local hospital. She was 33 years old and is survived by her husband, two daughters and a son, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Haynie and Mrs. Luckham. She is survived also by three brothers, Edward, John C. Jr. and Tanker K. Haynie. She was highly esteemed, a native of Virginia and had lived in this city three years. The pall bearers were J. Breslauer, E. J. Godfrey, J. F. Barnard, H. C. Wilder, J. T. Wyatt, G. Sawyer.
