Brakhage Family The ancestral home of the Brakhage family was in the Lippe Detmold region of Germany. Marriage and birth records for generations of the family can be found in the records of St. Johann Lutheran Church in Lemgo. The christening record of Louise Wilhelmine Henriette Brakhage (pictured left) and her siblings show a birthplace of Entrup. Louise's father, Johann Heinrich Brakhage moved his family to America in the mid 19th century. They settled in the Marion Township of Ft. Wayne, IN. According to Louise Brakhage Reisinger's granddaughter Frances Natho Sutton, the Brakhage farm was located near Concordia College. Young George Reisinger boarded with the family while he was a ministerial student at that college. At the Brakhage farm he met his future bride, Johann Henrich Brakhage's daughter Louise. The couple married in 1856, a week after George was ordained a Lutheran minister. |
