John Polk TynerSept. 24, 1841 - Nov. 15, 1923John Polk Tyner was a son of Dr. Lewis W. Tyner and his wife Sarah. He married Effie Ann McDonald about 1864. His tombstone shows his name incorrectly. His birth year also seems to be incorrect on his tombstone. All census records, including those when he was living in his father's household show him to be born 1844-1845. The 1900 census, which shows month and year of birth indicates that he was born in September 1844. 1870 Neshoba Co, MS Census #1199-1199 |

Perry Tyner1842 - 1928Thomas Perry Tyner was a son of Dr. Lewis W. Tyner and his wife Sarah. He married Maggie E. Census record consistently indicate that he was born later in the decade. The 1900 census, which indicates month and year of birth shows him born April 1847. He and his wife died without issue, possibly explaining the tombstone errors. 1880 - Living in the Neshoba Co, MS household of his mother, Sarah Tiner. |
Maggie E. Tyner1852 - 1952(Maiden name unknown) Maggie E. married Thomas Perry Tyner. Census records consistently show her younger than the tombstone date. The 1900 enumeration which shows month and year of birth indicate that she was born January 1869. This date is also consistent with her 1930 census record. She appears to have died without issue, possibly explaining the cause of the tombstone error. 1930 Leake Co, MS Census, Beat 5, Carthage Road, Widowed, p. 263, ED 40-12 Supv Dist 7, Sheet 5a, #93-95 (Living adjacent to the Walter Louis Tyner family.) |

Louis Richmond ColeSon of H B & M F ColeDied September 30, 1871Age 4 y 7?m 1 dayThis is a very confusing tombstone. It specifically indicates that Louis Richmond Cole was a child of Hiram Bates Cole and his 1st wife Mary Francis Hadley. But the age at death calculates to be almost two years after Mary Francis Hadley Cole died. Census information seems to validate the dates on Louis Richmond Cole's tombstone, but could actually be an explanation for the confusion. On the 1870 census Mary Frances Cole, Louis Richmond Cole's older sister, is show to be 4 years old. She was actually born in 1863 which would have made her 6-7 years old on the date of that enumeration. Louis Richmond Cole is shown on that same census to be a year younger. If we apply that age difference to what we know to be the correct birth date of his older sister we find Louis Richmond Cole to be born 1864-1865, which is consistent with his Mother's death date. We feel certain that what is incorrect on Louis Richmond Cole's tombstone is his age (in years) at death, possibly provided by his stepmother. |
