The fire started around 4:30 a.m. at an apartment building in the 300 block of Shiloh, a small street off of Ludlow in the gaslight district.

The Red Cross is responding to the scene to help six families who were smoked out of their apartments.

Fire officials said one person received multiple cuts to their body while trying to escape the fire.
