John Cheney was born August 30, 1765 in Anne Arundel Co, MD, and died October 19, 1838 in Greene Co, GA. He married (1) Rachel Benson April 11, 1785 in Anne Arundel Co, Maryland, daughter of Thomas Benson.  She was born about 1763 in Anne Arundel Co, MD, and died 1801 - 1802 probably in George. He married (2) Catherine Evans Owen April 04, 1803 in Oglethorpe Co, GA, daughter of William Owen. She was born January 03, 1781 in Virginia, and died May 14, 1854 in Greene Co, GA.  Catherine is buried in Penfield Cemetery, Greene Co, GA.

1. Aquilla Cheney, born October 26, 1785 in Maryland; died June 01, 1869 in Russelville, Monroe Co, GA. He married (1) Elizabeth Ann Middlebrook about 1810 in Georgia; born February 12, 1791; died November 17, 1865 in Monroe Co, GA. He married (2) Mary T. 1867 - 1869 in Monroe Co, GA.

2. Thomas Benson Cheney, born January 25, 1788 in Maryland; died December 28, 1845 in Morgan Co, GA.

3. Julia Cheney, born April 04, 1790 in South River, Anne Arundel Co, MD; died 1882 in Clinton, Van Buren Co, AR.

4. Richard Cheney, born April 13, 1792 in Maryland.

5. Margaret Cheney, born May 02, 1794 in Maryland. She married James Chambers September 30, 1812 in Wilkes Co, GA.

6. John Cheney, born April 20, 1796 in Maryland; died in Maryland. He married Charlotte Shaw.

7. Samuel Cheney, born May 01, 1798 in Maryland; died in Maryland.

8. Joseph Cheney, born January 30, 1801 in Georgia; died 1802.

9 Drucilla Echols Cheney, born February 11, 1804 in Georgia; died August 30, 1878 in Greene Co, GA. She married (1) Peter Sturdivant. She married (2) John Strozier July 19, 1826 in Georgia.

10. Sallie Harris Cheney, born August 30, 1806 in Georgia; died November 30, 1831 in Georgia.

11. William Owen Cheney, born September 30, 1809 in Georgia; died August 06, 1871 in Georgia. He married Elizabeth Callaway November 05, 1829 in Georgia; born November 24, 1812; died January 03, 1902.

12. Elizabeth Evans Cheney. She married Johnson Boswell.

13.  Harriet Holcomb Cheney.

14. Melissa Baldwin Cheney.

15. Rhoda Ann Cheney. She married W. R. Callaway.

 Julia Cheney (John) was born April 04, 1790 in South River, Anne Arundel Co, MD, and died 1882 in Clinton, Van Buren Co, AR. She married Humphrey J. Scroggin July 29, 1814 in Jones Co, GA. He was born December 16, 1794 in Oglethorpe Co, GA, and died October 10, 1861 in Conway Co, AR.

Children of Julia Cheney and Humphrey Scroggin are:

1. John Cheney Scroggin, born January 02, 1817 in Georgia; died March 28, 1864 in Conway Co, AR. He married (1) Dica McAlister March 01, 1838 in Van Buren Co, AR; born February 19, 1820 in Mississippi; died March 29, 1847 in Conway Co, AR. He married (2) Sarah Black August 17, 1848 in Dallas Co, AR; born March 31, 1823 in Arkansas.

2. Matilda Caroline Scroggin, born September 1820 in Jones Co, GA; died Aft. 1900. She married Jonathon McGinty 1836; born about 1816 in Mississippi.

3. William Fielden Scroggin, born Abt. 1821 in Lawrence Co, MS; died about 1865 in Point Remove, Conway Co, AR. He married Mary Ann about 1847.  She was born about 1832 in Mississippi.

4. James Madison Scroggin, born March 23, 1822 in Lawrence Co, MS; died after 1900 in Conway Co, AR. He married Samantha Lucy Stell November 19, 1843 in Morrilton, Conway Co, AR; born 1823 in Dekalb Co, GA.

5. Juliana Scroggin, born 1824 in Lawrence Co, MS; died Aft. June 29, 1875. She married (1) Jacob Bryant about 1842.  He was born in Mississippi. She married (2) Asa Linn about 1870.

6. George Edward Scroggin, born 1826 in Lawrence Co, MS; died after 1881 in Dallas Co, AR. He married (1) Alisey Colbert October 12, 1848 in Conway Co, AR. He married (2) Rebecca Hill 1870.

7. Thomas Franklin Scroggin, born 1828 in Holmes Co, MS; died after 1879 in Ozark, Franklin Co, AR. He married (1) Tempey Ruth Fielder April 15, 1848 in Dallas Co, AR. He married (2) Louise J. King Abt. 1861.

8. Humphrey Scroggin, Jr., born 1830 in Holmes Co, MS; died March 18, 1912 in Bearden, Ouachita Co, AR. He married (1) Phyllis about 1855. He married (2) Elizabeth Fikes October 08, 1865 in Dallas Co, AR.

9. Jefferson Roburtus Scroggin, born 1833 in Holmes Co, MS; died Aft. June 29, 1875. He married Martha Elizabeth 1857; born 1840 in Tennessee.

10. Larkin Mark Scroggin, born 1835 in Van Buren Co, AR; died 1865. He married Mary Ann Wallingsford February 05, 1858 in Dallas Co, AR; born Abt. 1839 in Tennessee.

Died
In Greene County, May 14th, 1854, at the residence of her son, William O. Cheney, Esq., Mrs. Catherine E. Cheney, relict of John Cheney, aged 73 years, 4 months and 11 days. Mrs. Cheney was a native of Virginia, whence she moved in early youth to Georgia; her father William Owen, settling in Wilkes County.
