Henry J. Crenshaw

Four of James Crenshaw & Mary Gray's children share the same tombstone.  You can see it in the foreground middle in the picture to the right.  Next to the children is a large rock marker, followed by the tombstone of Phoebe F. Crenshaw.  You then see what are probably several unmarked graves.  The tombstone to the right of the unmarked area is that of Abraham B. Crenshaw.  In the row immediately behind the Crenshaw graves you see a row beginning with two tall tombstones.  Those are the graves of Robert Presley Caldwell & his wife Jane G. McCracken.  Abraham B. Crenshaw & his wife Susan T. Cobb were living in their 1880 Union Co, MS household.  Can anyone explain why?

Phoebe Francis Crenshaw

October 25, 1851 - July 12, 1872

A child of James Crenshaw & his wife Mary Gray,  Phoebe is listed on the 1860 Pontotoc Co, MS census as Phoebe F.  On the 1870 census she is enumerated as Francis.  Her tombstone is broken and can be viewed in that state in the cemetery picture shown above.

Abraham Crenshaw

Born in Hartford Co, Tenn

May 4, 1846

Died Apr 15, 1891

Abraham B. Crenshaw died leaving a widow, Susan T Cobb.  Both were enumerated in the 1880 Union Co, MS household of Robert Presley Caldwell & his wife Jane G. McCracken.  Abraham Crenshaw was a son of James Crenshaw & his wife Mary Gray.  The birthplace on his tombstone is a mystery as no Hartford Co, Tenn. exists today.  Abraham was the only child of James Crenshaw born in Tennessee.   What was their relationship to the Robert P. Caldwell family?

E. A. Cobb Dead......On Sunday morning at 3 O'clock, our friend and neighbor quit the walks of men, and was gathered to his fathers. He died as he had lived, trusting in his Savior. He had suffered much with that fatal disease dropsy, but in and through it all he never murmured but bore his awful suffering in patience. he leaves a wife and three children to mourn his departure. But we would say, weep not for him, for he has gone where pain and sickness never enter but all is happiness and love. He is better off then we who are left behind, because he has won the victory over death. His pastor, W. T. Darling, conducting the funeral services, after which his remains were laid to rest in the New Harmony cemetery to await the morning of the resurrection. (signed) A FRIEND.
