Chunky Cemetery Newton Co, MS
The cemetery sits on a hill, on the west side of the Chunky/Duffee Highway (Adams Street). Wood Street runs between the houses that border that road. A small dirt road on the north side of Wood Street (behind the houses) takes one up the hill to the cemetery. The cemetery isn't easily visible from the Chunky/Duffee Highway, even when searching for it. The Chunky community is just off I-20 after the interstate exits Lauderdale County and enters Newton County. If traveling from Meridian via I-20 take Exit 121 towards Chunky. Turn left on the Chunky/Duffee Road (Adams Street). Turn right on Wood Street. During my adolescence Chunky was best known for its Catfish Camp. Cemetery Photographed April 22, 2006 |
